About the Counselors:

Ellen Bast is a rising sophomore at Goucher College in Baltimore, MD, where she is triple majoring in Economics, Spanish, and Dance with a concentration in Dance Science. Ellen danced with ORCBA when she was in high school, with some of her favorite roles including Aurora in Sleeping Beauty and Spanish soloist in The Nutcracker. At the Dance Centre of Oak Ridge, she studied ballet, pointe, hip hop, ballroom, and lyrical with Sharon Cousins, Tony Williams, Roberta Chin, and Molly Quist; she also taught Pre-Ballet and Tap.

Kirstie Durham is a junior at the University of Tennessee and is majoring in Anthropology. She has studied many types of dance including ballet, jazz, and lyrical. "I love dancing because it’s therapy for your body and mind that isn’t like anything else. I look forward to teaching the kids to have confidence when they dance — it’s the most important part!"

Madeline Gavin is an eighth grader at Jefferson Middle School. She has been taking ballet for 9 years, jazz and tap for 5 years, and lyrical for 2 years. "I love dance so much and think it is a great way to express myself; I am thrilled to get the opportunity to help out with summer dance camp!"

Taylor Gober is 17 years old and went to Oak Ridge High School. He has been taking dance for 1 year, including ballet. "I love dance because it gives you a very accomplished feeling that nothing else can really give. I want to work with the kids because I would like for other kids to have to same feeling of accomplishment and success that my instructors gave me."

Meredith Graves is a junior at Hardin Valley Academy. She has been dancing pointe, ballet, jazz, tap, and lyrical for eight years. "I cannot imagine doing anything else but dance, and teaching others to love it as well is something else I enjoy doing. Every time I dance I learn something new, and I hope that the kids will have just as much fun learning to dance as much as I love teaching it!"

Christian Groff is a rising senior at Oak Ridge High School. He has been taking dance for several years, and has performed with ORCBA most recently as The Mouse King in The Nutcracker.

Megan Groff is a rising senior at Oak Ridge High School. She takes dance classes from the Oak Ridge Academy of Dance and The Dance Centre of Oak Ridge. She has been dancing Ballet since she was four and has been in countless ORCBA productions including The Nutcracker, Peter and the Wolf, and Firebird. She volunteers at her dance studio to help with Preschool Ballet classes. This will be her fourth year as a counselor at ORCBA Summer Dance Camp.

Sarah Jett is finishing her sophomore year at Pellissippi State and is in the Senior Company at The Dance Centre where she has studied under the direction of Molly Quist for 13 years, focusing on ballet, tap, jazz, modern, Pointe, contemporary, and hip hop. She is beginning her 4th year as an instructor for DCK. This summer she took gold in the lyrical category in both ‘Regionals’ and ‘Nationals’ at Stage One. She has participated in 16 ORCBA productions dancing a variety of roles such as ‘Sugar Plum Fairy’ in The Nutcracker, and the title role in both Sleeping Beauty and The Firebird. She is very excited to return to Summer Dance Camp.

Olivia King is 18 and attends Pellissippi State. She has been dancing for over 15 years. She attend the Dance Centre of Knoxville, and has danced with ORCBA in The Nutcracker and a variety of spring shows. "Dance allows me to express myself in ways that I cannot express out loud. I can tell a story through every movement when I perform. I am very excited as always to be at camp with the kids."

Emily McLean is a rising senior at Oak Ridge High School. She has been dancing for over 14 years and has enjoyed every minute of it! She has taken classes in Ballet, Hip Hop, and Ballroom from the Dance Center of Oak Ridge, where she has been dancing for 5 years. She has also participated in ORCBA's annual production of The Nutcracker for several years. This is her fourth year of being a counselor for ORCBA's Summer Dance Camp, and she is very excited for another great year!

Eliza Rowcliffe attends Hardin Valley Academy where she will be a senor this year. She has been dancing since she was three years old, and takes classes in ballet, jazz, lyrical, and pointe. She danced in ORCBA’s production of The Nutcracker last season. This will be her second year as counselor for the ORCBA Dance Camp. "I am so so excited about teaching these kids some fun routines that hopefully they will love and that will inspire them to continue dancing."
